Dec. 19- Dec. 23

It's our 17th week of school, we have a jammed packed week full of fun Christmas activities. Ask your student about the candy-cane story or about how we re-wrote the 12 days of Christmas. We will also be making special gifts in class this week!


Christmas Party: Wednesday, Dec. 21
We will celebrate the Christmas season with some fun games, crafts and snacks from 2-3 p.m.

Mitchellville
We will be gearing up to transform our classroom into Mitchellville for the second half of the year. Students will bring home the job descriptions and an application during their break. Please find a few jobs that would fit the talents of your child and have them be prepared to fill out the job application. More information to come!

Students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. Crosswalk will be available until 6:00 p.m.

Assessment Week
Once every 5 weeks we have an in-class Language Arts assessment. This test looks a look at the retained knowledge of the previous 5 weeks we have studied in Language Arts. Because of the assessment we do not assign spelling words nor do we have a spelling test this Friday. Instead, students will be coming home with a two-sided practice page each night for homework, along with a math page.

  It's our fourth week of school, we have our first field trip, Picture Day, K-2 Chapel and another fun Mystery Science activity to look forward to!

Picture Day: Tuesday, September 13
We will be taking fall school pictures this day. If you would like your child to wear something specific for pictures they will be given an opportunity to change if they need to prior to the pictures!

First Field Trip: Wednesday, September 14
Our first field trip will be Wednesday, September 14! We will be traveling to Mt.Hermon Camp and Conference Center to complete a challenge course as a class! Permission slips are due by Monday, Sept. 12th! Please make sure your child wears close-toed shoes, layered clothing with pants, and brings his her own lunch. Also, if your child is not already 8 years old they will need to bring a booster seat, thank you!

K-2 Chapel: Thursday, September 15
All are welcome to join us for our chapel service this week. We are meeting on the main floor of the new building across from the 1st and 2nd grade classrooms. Chapel begins at 2:25 p.m.

Welcome Back to School!!

Hello Parents, Families, and Friends! I am excited and looking forward to another year in Second Grade at Twin Lakes Christian School. We have a lot planned for the year and the blog is a place to check for weekly updates about events in our class and around school. Last Field Trip, May 26
Our last field trip will be on Thursday, May 26 from 12:45 p.m.-2:15 p.m. We will be going to the local library in Aptos. Please make sure your child has a booster seat the day of the trip if he/ she needs one and don't forget to fill out the form for a library card for your child doesn't already have one!

Jogathon/Minimum Day: Friday, May 27
We will be running in the morning from 9:15-9:30 a.m., please have your child wear comfortable clothes and good running shoes!

We have really enjoyed getting back our flat people in the mail and hearing all about their adventures! It's not too late if you haven't sent yours yet, we still have a few weeks left to get him/her back in the mail!!

Second Grade Service Project
Both second grade classes will be participating in a service project to raise money and awareness for a ministry in our community called WINGS. WINGS is a non-profit homeless advocacy group that supports individuals in their walk out of homelessness. Encourage your student to do a few extra chores around the house to donate money towards building a few "Welcome Home" baskets for these families. Information is being sent home today in each child's student planner and all are welcome to join us on Wednesday, May 11th, at 11:30 a.m to  hear from a representative from WINGS. She will explain more about the ministry and how we can partner with them to help those in our community!

We're Back!! April 25- April 29

Hello friends and family! I apologize for taking a hiatus from the blog since our spring break, oops! We've just been SO busy! Please stayed tuned in as we are approaching the end of the school year, there is ALOT going on! Please let me know if you have any questions!

Spring Concert: Thursday, April 28
Students should arrive at 6:45 p.m. They can gather at our drop-off/ dismissal site on the stairs outside. Students should be dressed in nice clothes for the concert, please no jeans! After the concert, you can pick your child up at the steps and please check-out with me! Looking forward to seeing and hearing all their hard work!!

Both second grade classes have been practicing really hard for our up-coming performance of "Vacation to Mars." The short drama/musical will be on Friday, March 18th in Monschke Hall. The performance begins at 9:30 a.m. and will last approximately 30 minutes.

Valentine's Day Party: Friday, February 12
We will be celebrating Valentine's Day during the last part of our day on Friday, from 2:15- 3:00 p.m. Students will be playing games, doing a small craft, eating some snacks and passing out valentines. A list will be going home this week with each child's name, please include a valentine for everyone in the class if your child chooses to bring valentines, thank you!

We are almost at the end of January, wow! We have been continuing to study the life of Moses in our bible lessons, we have entered our Solar System unit in Science and have just finished place value and expanded notation in Math. Mitchellville is off to a great start, the students are learning alot of responsibility and how to work together! We will be organizing a "fitness" basket for our class item to be entered in the on-line auction. You can approach Mrs. McCutchen or Tara F. if you have questions about that specifically or would like to help put the basket together. Please stay tuned into the blog for weekly updates!

Mitchellville
Please replenish you child's classroom supplies (crayons/markers, pencils, erasers, personal pencil sharpener etc.) Starting in the new year Mitchellville will take effect. Your child will be responsible for his/her own supplies and will need to apply for a classroom job during our first week back. A flyer went home during the break with information about Mitchellville, please ask if you have any questions!
