Week 29
 Mark your calendars with the following important dates and keep an eye out for emails and information in your child's Student Planner!

Spring Break: April 1-5
Enjoy the break!

Iowa State Testing: Monday- Thursday, April 15-18th
Students will be completing the Iowa State Test during the mornings of the above dates. Please make sure your child arrives to school on-time, well rested and has eaten breakfast so they can do their best!

NO SCHOOL: Friday, April 19th
In observance of Good Friday, there will be NO SCHOOL. Enjoy the Easter weekend!

Fingerprinting
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, we are asking all parents and family members to become fingerprinted. This is a $79 cost and will allow you to drive on field trips and volunteer in the classroom and around campus. Let the office know if you are interested!

Homework is sent home as a packet every Friday. The packet is to be returned the following Friday and may include:

Spelling Words:
cow, loud, count, frown, crowd, brown, couch, found, house, around, cake, stone, line, cool, spike

Fluency Page: please time your child while they read the passage aloud. Record their words read in ONE MINUTE, subtract mistakes and write remaining words read correctly. Then have them complete this a second time to produce a second set of scores. don't forget to answer the comprehension questions at the bottom and complete the back of this page as well!

Spelling: students should complete the spelling practice sheet that goes with that week's words. 

Super Speed Words: Please time your child for the given amount and have them recite the word list to you. Mark where he/she stopped

Weekly Math Pages: These will be pulled from our Investigations3 math curriculum. Approximately 1-2 per week.

Super Speed Numbers: Please time your child for the given amount and have them recite the number list to you. Mark where he/she stopped

Math Fact Practice: Have your child take a practice math fact test at least 3 times per week to prepare for Friday's timed test! 1 min 30 sec!

*Please read 15 minutes 5x's a week and record on monthly reading log. 7 completed reading logs earns a special treat at the end of the year!

Very Important Person Project Due: March 25
Students selection for their VIP should have been approved by me. Please get started on the project, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask! We will have a special viewing for parents on Friday, March 29th from 9-10 am in the Chapel room across from our classroom. Can't wait to see the final products!

Spring Concert: March 28
Students have been practicing with Mrs. Cutler for this annual concert. The concert will begin at 6:30, lasting an hour. Students will need to be dropped off with their teachers in an assigned seating area by 6:20 pm. Second grade students need to wear any shade of green shirt, with nice pants/leggings/skirt on the bottom. The Spring Concert is in the Main Auditorium, hope to see you there!

Elementary Speech Meet: March 11
Congratulations to the following students who are advancing to the Elementary Speech Meet:
Taylor, Channing, Lilly, Anna, Navah
All are welcome to attend the Elementary Speech Meet, Monday, March 11 10:15-11:45 am in the chapel room.

Field Trip: Fri. March 15
We will be attending the CYT performance of "The Lion King Jr." on Friday, March 15. We will leave campus at 9:00 am and return by 12:00 pm. A permission slip was sent home, please sign and return in your child's Student Planner.

Minimum Day: Fri. March 15
Students will be dismissed at 12:00 pm, Crosswalk will be available until 6:00 pm.

It was fantastic to see most of you at Open House, our students have been hard at work! We have our In-Class Speech Meet next Tuesday, the 5th. Get started on the VIP project at home, due March 25th.  All students will participate in a class Speech Meet on Tuesday, March 5th. A select few students will continue to the grade level Speech Meet, and the all-school Speech Meet will be for those who advance from the grade level meet.
