Our last week is upon us as we look forward to our Christmas break! Enjoy the holidays!

I will be sending home information about Mitchellville, which will begin right after the break. Take some time to review the jobs that are available with your child and help them fill out the application for a job that would be a good fit!

Dec. 10-14

Hello Families and Friends! We have another fun week planned with some specific Christmas projects we'll be working on. Thank you to all who have been praying for my husband. Brian is at home now recovering and we are thankful that the injuries were not worse!

December 3: Book Order Due
If you'd like to purchase books for the month of December, the Scholastic order form is due on or before December 3rd. You can also place an order on-line for your student! Order forms will be sent home Monday, November 25th.

December 14: Jogathon
Now is the time to be raising support for our annual jogathon which will take place on December 14th. If you'd like to be involved fill out the form attached to the collection envelope and return it to the office. All students can participate in the jogathon no matter much money is raised individually!

Please continue to pray for Corrine McKendrick who was injured during our field trip last week! She will be off her feet for 8-10 weeks. Pray that healing from the surgery would happen quickly and give her patience as she rests!

Hi Parents, Families, and Friends! A few reminders about this short week:

Monday, October 15: Field Trip
We will be participating in a challenge course at Mt. Hermon. Please bring your child's carseat if they are younger than 8 years old. Adults and students who are attending all need to bring a bag lunch. Please wear layered, comfortable clothing. Pants work best for wearing a harness, a t-shirt, and sweatshirt would be great! Looking forward to a wonderful day!
October 18 and 19: NO SCHOOL
There will be no school on Thursday and Friday of this week, teachers  will be attending ACSI conferences. Cross-walk will not be available.
We will only be having math homework, no spelling, due to the short week!

Deadline for the Field Trip

If you'd like to order books for the month of October, the order form is due by Monday, October 15. You can also place your order on-line!
K-2 Chapel Service: Monday, October 8 2:25 p.m.
Please feel free to join us this Monday for the K-2 chapel service held in Monschke Hall at 2:25 p.m.  If you regularly volunteer Monday afternoons during our center time, we will be doing centers at 1:00- 1:30 p.m. and attending the chapel service in the afternoon.

Oct.1- Oct. 5

Hi Parents and Families! Thank you to all who have provided supplies for our classroom, we greatly appreciate it!! 
As we enter the month of October we'll be doing quite a few activities with pumpkins. It would be great if a few parents wouldn't mind bringing in a large pumpkin for use in the classroom. Ideally, it would be nice to have about 5 or 6 large pumpkins so the students can work in small groups to estimate and count seeds, find the circumference around the pumpkin and describe their pumpkin together. We won't be using the pumpkins until the second week of October, thanks!

Sept. 24- Sept. 28

Welcome to Fall! It's hard to believe that we're at the end of September looking towards October. Your student will be bringing home a permission slip for our first field trip of the year, to the challenge course at Mount Hermon, the date of the trip is Monday, October 15. Please sign and return both permission slips as well as the $15 fee on or before October 8th.  We will need several parent volunteers to drive for our trip. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the field trip.

 A few other things about the week,  we'd love to see you at chapel this Monday, 2:25 p.m. in Monschke Hall. September reading logs are due on Friday, have your student bring them to school to be collected. Our first math test will be on Wednesday, a review will be sent home Tuesday night. Sept. 17- Sept. 21

Hi Parents and Families! It was wonderful to see each of you last week at Back to School Night, thank you for coming! We have another fun week planned, as we head into fall we have been talking a lot about apples and seeds in science. We've charted apple tastings, eaten foods made from apples (apple butter, apple chips and apple cider). We've made applesauce in the classroom and this week we'll make an apple pie! Ask your student to tell you about the seed necklace that we made last week as well! Below you'll find our homework, spelling words, announcements and events for the week!

Classroom Contact Information
A classroom parent, Paula Perry (Eliana's mom), has offered to create a classroom contact sheet for families only in our class. Students will have their pictures taken and family information will accompany the picture (parents names, email, phone number etc.) Please contact Mrs. McCutchen if you DO NOT want your child's picture taken or contact information to be available to other families in the class, thank you!

Thursday, Sept. 20: Hearing and Vision Screening
A free vision and hearing screening will be available for all second grade students, your student will participate unless a parent notifies the office that you do don't want your child to be screened.

Friday, Sept. 21: Half-Day
Students will be dismissed at 12 p.m. this Friday as it is a minimum day. Crosswalk will be available until 6:00 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 21: Movie Night at School
Come enjoy a movie as a family at 7:00 p.m. Popcorn and water will be provided, bring a blanket to sit on the baseball field to watch The Lorax! Hope to see you there

Hi Parents, Family, and Friends! We have another great week to look forward to. Just a few reminders about some things going on at TLCS this week:

Monday, September 10th: Primary Chapel 2:25 p.m.
All are welcome to attend our TLCS Chapel services, primary(K-2) classes have chapel every other Monday at 2:25 p.m. in Monschke Hall.

Thursday, September 13th: Fall Picture Day
This also happens to be gym day, so if you'd like your child to bring a different set of clothes for pictures they will have the opportunity to change before we take our pictures.

Thursday, September 13th: Back to School Night 6:30- 8:00 p.m.
There will be two identical presentations, 6:30- 7:00 and 7:15-7:45. Parents and families will have the opportunity to hear what we've got planned for the year, sign-up to help, and ask questions about the school year. Hope to see you all there!
A Note From Gym:
Miss Murdock has asked that students come prepared for gym with the appropriate shoes (closed toed and good for being active) as well as appropriate clothes (loose fitting, shorts under dresses for girls). We have gym on Monday and Thursday mornings (9:00 a.m.- 9:50 a.m.) and parent help is always appreciated!

Sept. 4- Sept. 7

Hi Parents and Families! Several things will go home on Tuesday, spelling and math homework. Students will be given a page of each every night (Mon.-Thurs.) which are to be completed and turned in the next day. Students can keep track of their nightly reading with our monthly reading log. Please keep this at home during the week, return it each Friday to get a stamp and turn it in at the end of the month so I can collect each reading log. A Scholastic Book Club order for the month of September will also be sent home, if you'd like to place an order please return the order form and money (cash or check made out to Scholastic Books) to me by the date indicated on the top of the monthly order. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have questions, have a great week!

Welcome to Second Grade!

Hello Students and Families! Welcome back to school and another year at Twin Lakes Christian School. If you are new  to TLCS we're excited to have you. We have a lot planned for the school year ahead, Back to School Night will be a great time to get information and ask questions. Join us Thursday, September 13, from 6:30- 8:00 p.m. to learn more about how you can be involved in the class and ways you can encourage and support your student at home! 

This first week of school is all about learning what our typical day will look like in room 831. You can expect nightly spelling, math and reading homework to begin our second week of school. May is a Busy Month!

Hi Parents and Families! May is a busy month as we are coming to a close on the school year! The following are a few dates to mark on your calendar:

Spring Concert: May 11
Please have your students in the auditorium no later than 6:30 p.m., wearing a solid, spring colored top and dark jeans, skirt or pants on the bottom. The concert starts t 7:00 p.m., hope to see you there!
Amgen Bike Tour- NO SCHOOL: May 14
Due to the high traffic and road closures from the Amgen Bike Tour, there will be no school or crosswalk on Monday, May 14.
4th Quarter Character Trait Chapel: May 15

Hi Parents, Families and Friends! We are finally through with our week of testing, your students did an amazing job staying focused and doing their best! A couple of things to look forward to this week:

President's Award Testing in Gym Class
Ms. Murdock will be testing each student on their ability to complete certain activities this week in gym. It would be really helpful if some parents could help volunteer in-order for the testing to run as smoothly as possible. Our class will be testing on Monday and Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m.-9:50 a.m. Please come to the gym if you can help!
Sea-Life Presentations
Each student will be giving a short presentation on their sea-life project this week. Presentations will be on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday!

Welcome back from spring break! I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable time off! We have a busy fourth quarter and it won't be long before summer is here! We are preparing for the Terra-Nova test which will begin next week. We will have scheduled testing throughout each day beginning next Monday through Friday (April 23-April 27). Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a good breakfast. March Happenings!

Hi Everyone! March is a very busy month make sure to mark your calendars and have a great week!
Here's what we've got planned:

In-Class Speech Meet: March 22
Your student should be working on memorizing a bible verse, short story or poem that he/she picked in class. They each will present their piece in-class on this day in front of three judges. Please let me know if you need another copy of the bible verse, short story or poem!

Half-Day: Friday, March 23
Students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m., Crosswalk available until 6:00 p.m.

Character Trait Chapel: March 26, 2:15 p.m.
Families will be notified if their child will be given an award. Chapel is held in Monschke Hall at 2:15 p.m.

Field Trip to the Children's Discovery Museum
Thursday, March 29
We will be headed to San Jose to visit the CDM and view their exhibit on the Woolly Mammoth! Each student needs to have a bag lunch and have returned the permission slip and $6. Adults who attend also need to pay $6. We will need several drivers and parents to attend, please let me know if you'd be willing to attend and/or drive on your child's permission slip. We will leave school at 8:30 a.m. and return around 2:00 p.m. Let me know if you have any questions!

Spring Pictures/ End of Third Quarter: March 30
Pictures will be taken in the morning! Report cards will be hand-delivered for third quarter the following week!

Hi Parents, Friends and Families! It's hard to believe that February is almost half-way through! We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Tuesday afternoon, please make sure that if your child is bringing valentine's that they have one for each student in the class, thank you! Jan. 30- Feb. 3

Wow! Have we got a busy month coming up! Looking ahead there are few dates and events to mark on your calendar:


Wednesday, February 1st: Report Cards Will be Distributed


Students will no longer be sent home with their report cards, teachers will be handing them directly to a parent or family member. If we do not see you at drop-off or pick-up, the report card will be mailed home.


Thursday, February 2nd: Groundhog Day


Have your student watch the news, look on the comupter, or listen to the radio to see if the the groundhog saw his shadow or not. If they can tell me on Thursday, they will receive a special treat!


Tuesday, February 7th: 100th Day of School!!


We will be celebrating our 100th day of school, ask your student about some of the fun activities we did to commemorate the day!


Tuesday, February 14th: Valentine's Day


We will be making special valentine mail boxes so if you have any cereal boxes or large Kleenex boxes that you could donate we'll take them! We will have a Valentine's Day party in the afternoon. Please make sure that if your child comes to school with valentines that they have one for each student in the class, a list will be sent home the Friday before!


NO SCHOOL Monday, February 20th: President's Day


HALF-DAY Wednesday, February 23rd: Crosswalk available until 6:00 p.m.

Very Important Person Project


For the month of February we'll be learning about very important people in Social Studies. Students will be given directions for a VIP project (going home Feb. 1st) which will include making a 3x5 trading card and a diorama, both of which will be displayed during Open House. The directions will have an extensive list of people for the students to choose from. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!

Jan. 9- Jan. 13

What a great first week back after vacation! Everyone has successfully applied and received a job in Mitchellville, payday is tomorrow! Also, we had a visitor, Dr. Ana Conda from the Zooland Association, came to give a presentation on living and non-living things! She'll be visiting quite a bit this month since we are studying a zoo unit in science!

We will begin Math Facts this week. This is a daily practice of math facts, each student will be given a timed test each Friday to complete as many problems as they can. If they complete them all in the time allotted time, they move to the next fact page. Instructions will be provided in the Math Facts packet. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!

Just a reminder about a few things. First, if you're looking for a place to get plugged in, the computer lab always enjoys having volunteers. We have computer on Thursdays from 12:20 p.m.-1:20 p.m. Secondly, make sure your child comes prepared for gym each week with the appropriate clothing and shoes, we have gym om Mondays and Wednesdays.
