Week 17
Welcome Back! I hope the break was restful and well-spent with family and friends. I am looking forward to diving into 2019 with a lot of fun activities including the start of Mitchellville and practicing for our upcoming play, "Vacation to Mars!"

Please join us for a festive afternoon in the Main Auditorium from 2:15- 3:00 pm. Students K-5 will perform Christmas songs and we will celebrate with cookies and cocoa afterward, hope to see you there!

Character Trait Awards, December 19:
Congratulations to the following students who will be receiving an award at our next K-2 chapel:

Christmas Party: December 20
We will celebrate during the last part of Thursday, 2:15-3:00 pm, by making cookies, playing Christmas BINGO, crafting together and playing reindeer games. Please feel free to join us for the fun if your schedule allows!

Polar Express Day, December 21: SHHHH!
Students will be "boarding" the Polar Express on our Half-Day before break! Please send them to school in their pj's. This is a surprise, I will have told them we are going to just have a comfy day, little do they know they will receive a golden ticket as they enter the classroom and hot chocolate to sip on during our time together watching the Polar Express!

Campfire Support
Our Second Grade classes have been given a family to support during this holiday season that lost everything in the recent fires near Paradise. If you'd like to purchase a gift or gift card to support our family we will be taking donations until Friday, December 7th. Please send the item(s) with your child or drop them off in the office and we'll make sure they get to the right family! Thank you for your generosity!

We had SO much fun during Pumpkin Madness! Thank you to those of you who donated a pumpkin, I'm pretty sure the students' favorite part was rolling them down the hill after we measured, weighed and counted seeds! Don't forget to bring your book report projects in on Monday!

Students came home with a scoring rubric and information regarding the book report (a yellow page in their Student Planner). Week 7

Week 7
 We have ALOT of things going on this month, thank you for taking the time to check-in and stay informed. Our first field trip is this week (Wednesday, 10th), please read information below! We will be dissecting owl pellets this week, check out the bones your child will discovery!
Don't forget to be logging your child's reading at home, practicing Math Facts and taking AR quizzes!! Please email if you have questions regarding events, activities or assignments!

Drive for Schools: Begins September 13
Ticket sales began September 13 for our annual Drive for Schools fundraiser. Tickets and information came home home about the fundraiser, let me know if you have any questions!

Field Trip: Wednesday, October 10
We will be headed up to Mount Hermon Camp and Conference Center in Felton to participate in a challenge course. We will leave school at 8:45 am and return by 11:45 am. Permission slips and waivers have been sent home. Please provide your child's booster seat if they are younger than 8 years old.
Don't forget that you must be fingerprinted in-order to attend, thank you!

Character Trait Awards
Congratulations to the following students who will be receiving a Character Trait Award at our upcoming chapel, October 10:

Pumpkin Madness: October 18
We'll be measuring, weighing and counting seeds as well as making pumpkin ice cream during our "Pumpkin Madness." If you'd be willing to donate a large pumpkin please drop it off in the classroom before the 18th!

Half-Day Friday, October 19
Students will be dismissed at 12:00 pm, Crosswalk will be available until 6:00 pm.

Fall Book Report: Due October 22
Students came home with a scoring rubric and information regarding the book report (a yellow page in their Student Planner). Take some time to choose a book that is appropriate for their reading level as well as fun and engaging, we refer to these as our "just-right" books. Students will have the opportunity to choose from multiple ways to present the information they have read to the class, I'm excited to see all the final products!

Fingerprinting
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, we are asking all parents and family members to become fingerprinted. This is a $79 cost and will allow you to drive on field trips and volunteer in the classroom and around campus. Let the office know if you are interested!

Weekly Homework
Homework is sent home as a packet every Friday. The packet is to be returned the following Friday and may include:

Spelling Words (Ending Blends):
lamp, belt, milk, gift, soft, felt, held, camp, left, cold

Fluency Page: please time your child while they read the passage aloud. Record their words read in ONE MINUTE, subtract mistakes and write remaining words read correctly. Then have them complete this a second time to produce a second set of scores. don't forget to answer the comprehension questions at the bottom and complete the back of this page as well!

Spelling: students should complete the spelling practice sheet that goes with that week's words.
