May 29- June 1

Week 38
We are on the home stretch! It's hard to believe that the end of the school year is right around the corner. Congratulations to the following students who will be receiving a 4th quarter character trait award: 
Adelle, Logan, London, Jackson, Luke, Lorelei, Francesca

Flat Stanley Project
We'll be receiving Flat People up until the end of the school year, I hope yours is in the mail! We've already received 10 Flat people from all over the nation as far as Alaska and Virginia!

4th Quarter AR Party: June 4th
Students have until Sunday, June 3rd to reach their 4th quarter AR goal. We will be celebrating on Monday with Orange Fanta Floats! Good job reading!

Pancakes and PJ's: June 5th
We'll be celebrating the end of the years in our PJ's and eating pancakes on Tuesday, June 5th! Students are encouraged to wear their comfy PJ's and slippers. Mrs. Spielman and myself will be making pancakes for all to enjoy and we'll spend the morning playing board games together!

End of the Year School Picnic: June 6, 11:00 a.m.
Join us for this fun, family event. We will gather on the field at 11:00 a.m. You may purchase lunch for you child or family ahead of time or you can bring a picnic lunch. Crosswalk will be available beginning at 12:00 for students who have not already been picked up by a parent or an adult! 
See you then!

Weekly Homework
Homework is sent home as a packet every Friday. The packet is to be returned the following Friday and may include:

Spelling Words:
higher, flyer, mother, jumper, starry, scary, history, other, every, story,meet,luck,lock,cook,puff

Fluency Page: please time your child while they read the passage aloud. Record their words read in ONE MINUTE, subtract mistakes and write remaining words read correctly. Then have them complete this a second time to produce a second set of scores. don't forget to answer the comprehension questions at the bottom and complete the back of this page as well!

Spelling: students should complete the spelling practice sheet that goes with that week's words. 

Super Speed Words: Please time your child for the given amount and have them recite the word list to you. Mark where he/she stopped

Weekly Math Pages: These will be pulled from our Investigations3 math curriculum. Approximately 1-2 per week.

Super Speed Numbers: Please time your child for the given amount and have them recite the number list to you. Mark where he/she stopped

Math Fact Practice: Have your child take a practice math fact test at least 3 times per week to prepare for Friday's timed test! 1 min 30 sec!

*Please read 15 minutes 5x's a week and record on monthly reading log. 7 completed reading logs earns a special treat at the end of the year!

 This is a fun event for the whole family! 5-8 pm, there will be games, prizes, and food! You can pre-purchase tickets and wristbands in the office or buy them the night of. We will need A LOT of volunteers, please sign-up with Lora in the office if you can help for a half-hour time slot.

NO SCHOOL: May, 28
In observance of Memorial Day, there will be no school. Enjoy the long weekend!

Thank you to all who attended our play, it was a huge success in part to your support! A HUGE thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the gifts and special words of encouragement this last week, I felt truly appreciated!!

Flat Stanley Project

Second Grade Play: Character Matters
We have already started practicing our lines and songs for our upcoming Second Grade play. We hope you can join us for the performance on Tuesday, May 8th at 9:15 am in Monscheke Hall.

Spring Concert: May 10
Students need to be in the Main Auditorium in the "Second Grade" section by 6:20 pm. Please have your child wear either an orange or yellow shirt (preferably solid) with nice jeans or black pants (leggings are fine). See you there!

Half-Day: May, 11
Students will be dismissed at 12:00 pm, Crosswalk will be available until 6:00 pm.
