April 30- May 4

Week 34
No time like the present to begin taking those AR quizzes towards your 4th quarter goal! Students will have until Monday, June 4th to make their goal! We'll be making a Gingerbreadman in class this week, I sure hope he doesn't escape like he does in the fairy tale!!

Flat Stanley Project
During our Terra Nova Testing week we read the story of Flat Stanley. Your child came home with some project materials that will need to be sent to a friend, neighbor or relative. Please send the materials to someone that would be willing to participate in our project and able to send the materials back to school in the mail. 

Second Grade Play: Character Matters
We have already started practicing our lines and songs for our upcoming Second Grade play. We hope you can join us for the performance on Tuesday, May 8th at 9:15 am in Monscheke Hall.

Mark your calendars for our upcoming Spring Concert. 
More details to come!

Half-Day: May, 11
Students will be dismissed at 12:00 pm, Crosswalk will be available until 6:00 pm.

Spring Carnival: May 18
 This is a fun event for the whole family! 5-8 pm, there will be games, prizes, and food! You can pre-purchase tickets and wristbands in the office or buy them the night of. We will need A LOT of volunteers, please sign-up with Lora in the office if you can help for a half-hour time slot.

In observance of Memorial Day, there will be no school. Enjoy the long weekend!

Homework is sent home as a packet every Friday. The packet is to be returned the following Friday and may include:

Spelling Words:
NO SPELLING WORDS (assessment week)

Fluency Page: please time your child while they read the passage aloud. Record their words read in ONE MINUTE, subtract mistakes and write remaining words read correctly. Then have them complete this a second time to produce a second set of scores. don't forget to answer the comprehension questions at the bottom and complete the back of this page as well!

Spelling: students should complete the spelling practice sheet that goes with that week's words. 

Super Speed Words: Please time your child for the given amount and have them recite the word list to you. Mark where he/she stopped

Weekly Math Pages: These will be pulled from our Investigations3 math curriculum. Approximately 1-2 per week.

Super Speed Numbers: Please time your child for the given amount and have them recite the number list to you. Mark where he/she stopped

Math Fact Practice: Have your child take a practice math fact test at least 3 times per week to prepare for Friday's timed test! 1 min 30 sec!

*Please read 15 minutes 5x's a week and record on monthly reading log. 7 completed reading logs earns a special treat at the end of the year!

Week 33
I'm excited to start getting those Flat People back that have been mailed out! It will be exciting to show the pictures and read the letters! We have been practicing for our upcoming play on May 8th, hope you can make it! We will continue the Water Cycle in science this week and try to answer the following question: Why is there sand at the beach? Also, we've been learning a lot about Fairy Tales, ask your child if they remember what a fractured fairy tale is!

Week 32
We discussed the way water moves from rivers to oceans this week in Mystery Science, ask your child what kind of activity we did!
Terra Nova  State Testing: April 13-20
Please have your child well-rested and sent to school with a good breakfast during these days of testing! Please also make sure your child is on-time, some of our tests will begin first thing in the morning so they will need to hit the ground running. I know that all of our students are going to do a great job on our state testing!

Week 31
Welcome back! I hope your Spring Break was restful and well-spent with family and friends! It's hard to believe that we are in the home stretch of the fourth quarter! New AR goals have been set for our final quarter, have fun reading!

3rd Quarter Report Cards
Report cards will be delivered during our first week back after Spring Break. I will be passing out report cards during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. If I do not see a parent, the report cards will be given to the Cross Walk staff on Friday afternoon after which they will be mailed home if a parent is not able to retrieve it. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding report cards, I am always happy to meet!
