Sept. 28- Oct. 2

This week we will finish our Science unit on plants, we will be planting seeds in class to take home at the end of the week! We've also been discussing our community in Social Studies and made a book titled "Me on the Map"!  Continue to encourage your student to be taking AR tests at home as well as jumping on Khan Academy to play some math games.

Drive for Schools
Please continue selling tickets for Drive for Schools, all the proceeds benefit our school! Donations can be turned into the office or placed in your child's student planner, thank you!

Family Movie Night: Friday, Oct. 9
Join us for a free movie and popcorn on the baseball field! Bring a blanket or lawn chair, the movie begins at 7:00 p.m.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: Oct. 28-30
These are minimum days, students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. Cross-Walk will be available until 6:00 p.m., sign-ups for conference times will coming home soon!

Assessment Week
We have reached the end of our first Language Arts unit and students will be assessed on their comprehension over the last 5 weeks. During an assessment week students will NOT have any spelling words and there will NOT be a spelling test on Friday. However, there will still be homework. Each night students will be responsible for completing a two-sided practice page, one-sided math page and 15 minutes of reading. We will have a Math Facts test on Friday. Assessment weeks fall once every 5-6 weeks.
Monday: Spelling- Practice Page, Math- 2.6, Reading- 15 minutes
Tuesday: Spelling- Practice Page, Math- 2.7, Reading- 15 minutes 
Wednesday: Spelling- Practice Page, Math- 2.8, Reading- 15 minutes
Thursday: Spelling- Practice Page, Math- 2.9, Reading- 15 minutes

Sept. 21- Sept. 25

We had another great week! Everyone did fantastic on their first chapter math test of the year and we made a delicious apple pie, yummm!!We are continuing with our science theme of plants and how they grow. This week each student will make a wearable garden and plant a seed that they can watch sprout during the week. We will also do some taste-testing this week of items made from apples, looking forward to it!

K-2 Chapel: Monday, Sept. 21
All are welcome to attend our K-2 chapel service held in Monscheke Hall from 2:25-3:00 p.m.!

Peter Pan Auditions: Monday, Sept. 21
1st-8th grade auditions for the TLCS production Peter Pan will be in the Main Auditorium at 3:15 p.m. Any questions can be directed to Mrs. Nigh (rachelnigh@gmail.com)

Minimum Day: Friday, Sept. 25
Students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. Cross-Walk will be available until 6:00 p.m. Staff will be attending an in-service on disaster preparedness.

Sept. 14-Sept. 18

Our third week of school was fantastic! Awesome job on the Math Facts, keep up the good work for this week! We are learning all about the parts of a plant and especially how apple trees grow from a seed into a tree, this week we'll be making an apple pie together, yum! We will also have our first Unit Math test, a review will be sent home on Tuesday with the test being on Wednesday.

Friday, Sept. 18: Picture Day
All students will have their Fall pictures taken on this day, make-ups will be available at a later date if needed.

Accelerated Reader (AR) and Kahn Academy
I have been able to make Kahn Academy accounts for most of our students and each student has an Accelerated Reader acount already established. I will be sending home a half-page slip this week with your child's username and password in-order to login to both of these online programs. I will also include their AR reading level so they can be reading books that are appropriately leveled for where they are currently reading. Encourage your child to utilize these supplemental programs at home!

The following are our spelling words and homework for the week:

Monday: Spelling- 3x each, Math- 1.12, Reading-15 minutes
Tuesday: Spelling- word search,  Math- chapter 1 review Reading- 15 minutes
Wednesday: Spelling- 10 sentences, Math- NO Math (test in class), Reading- 15 minutes
Thursday: Spelling- ABC order, Math- 2.1, Reading- 15 minutes

Sept. 8- Sept. 11
