Week 11: Oct. 31- Nov. 4

It's our eleventh week of school, note the upcoming dates on your calendar. I'm looking forward to another GREAT week! 

NO SCHOOL: Friday, November 11th
In observance of Veteran's Day there will be no school, enjoy the long weekend!

Thursday, November 17th: Feast Day
Both second grade classes will be participating in a feast day to honor the celebration of the first Thanksgiving. More details to come, stay posted for ways to be involved in this fun event!

NO SCHOOL: November 21-25
In observance of Thanksgiving, there will be no school for students on these days, enjoy the holiday!

Monday: Spelling- Vowel Practice/3x each, Math- 3.11, Reading-15 minutes
Tuesday: Spelling-Writing Prompt, Math- 3.12, Reading- 15 minutes
Wednesday: Spelling- Fluency Page, Math- 3.13, Reading-15 minutes
Thursday: Spelling- ABC order/ Practice spelling test, Math- Chpt. 3 Review, Reading- 15 minutes
Friday: Reading- 15 minutes

Week 10: Oct. 24-28

It's our tenth week of school, we will be dissecting owl pellets this week and having fun with pumpkins! Remember that Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are minimum days!

Homework Change
Beginning with Unit 2 of our Language Arts curriculum, we will be switching homework slightly. Instead of sending home a weekly comprehension book, students will receive a second spelling page with a practice spelling test to take at home on the back. Also, we will include more specific directions for the weekly writing prompt that will be attached to the homework. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!

Parent/Teacher Conferences: October 26, 27,28
These days are minimum days, students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. A conference date and time has been set to discuss your child's academic and social progress during the 1st quarter. Cross-walk is available until 6:00 p.m.

Week 8: Oct.10- Oct.14

It's our eighth week of school and have a lot of fun things to look forward to in the month of October!!! In Science this month we'll be taking a look at animals (specifically owls and bats) and their habitats. In Social Studies we'll begin learning about the election process. We'll also be sampling pumpkin muffins and making pumpkin ice cream in class this month, yum!

Week 7: Oct. 3- Oct.7

Assessment Week
Once every 5 weeks we have an in-class Language Arts assessment. This test looks a look at the retained knowledge of the previous 5 weeks we have studied in Language Arts. Because of the assessment we do not assign spelling words nor do we have a spelling test this Friday. Instead, students will be coming home with a two-sided practice page each night for homework, along with a math page.

Movie Night: Friday, October 7th
Join us in the lower basketball courts for free popcorn and a movie this Friday. Bring some chairs and warm clothes! Kung Fu Panda starts at 7:00 p.m.! Hope to see you there!
