Week 6


Week 6
Welcome  to Fall, it's hard to believe that we are already into October!  We have ALOT of things going on this month, thank you for taking the time to check-in and stay informed. Make sure you know about the following:  Book Report, Field Trip, Spirit Day and Movie Night.
Don't forget to be logging your child's reading at home, practicing Math Facts and taking AR quizzes!! Please email if you have questions regarding events, activities or assignments!

Drive for Schools: Begins September 13
Ticket sales began September 13 for our annual Drive for Schools fundraiser. Tickets and information came home home about the fundraiser, let me know if you have any questions!

NO SCHOOL: SEPTEMBER 27 & 28
There will be no school for students on Thursday and Friday (27 & 28). Teachers will be attending our annual ACSI conference!

Spirit Day: Friday, October 5
CRAZY SOCK DAY!! Have your child wear their craziest socks for our first Spirit Day of the year!!

Movie Night: Friday, October 5
Join us for a fun night under the stars participating in the annual TLCS Movie Night. 
More information to come, hope to see you there! 

Field Trip: Wednesday, October 10
We will be headed up to Mount Hermon Camp and Conference Center in Felton to participate in a challenge course. We will leave school at 8:45 am and return by 11:45 am. Permission slips and waivers have been sent home. We will have room for 10 adult chaperones/drivers, please indicate on the permission slip if you'd like to join. 
Don't forget that you must be fingerprinted in-order to attend, thank you!

Fall Book Report: Due October 22
Students will be coming home with a scoring rubric and information regarding the book report (a yellow page in their Student Planner). Take some time to choose a book that is appropriate for their reading level as well as fun and engaging, we refer to these as our "just-right" books. Students will have the opportunity to choose from multiple ways to present the information they have read to the class, I'm excited to see all the final products!

Fingerprinting
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, we are asking all parents and family members to become fingerprinted. This is a $79 cost and will allow you to drive on field trips and volunteer in the classroom and around campus. Let the office know if you are interested!

Weekly Homework
Homework is sent home as a packet every Friday. The packet is to be returned the following Friday and may include:

Spelling Words (Beginning Blends):
NO SPELLING WORDS THIS WEEK: ASSESSMENT WEEK IN CLASS


Fluency Page: please time your child while they read the passage aloud. Record their words read in ONE MINUTE, subtract mistakes and write remaining words read correctly. Then have them complete this a second time to produce a second set of scores. don't forget to answer the comprehension questions at the bottom and complete the back of this page as well!

Spelling Story: Use all 10 spelling words in a creative story!

Spelling: students should complete the spelling practice sheet that goes with that week's words. 

Super Speed Words: Please time your child for the given amount and have them recite the word list to you. Mark where he/she stopped

Weekly Math Pages: These will be pulled from our Investigations3 math curriculum. Approximately 1-2 per week.

Super Speed Numbers: Please time your child for the given amount and have them recite the number list to you. Mark where he/she stopped

Math Fact Practice: Have your child take a practice math fact test at least 3 times per week to prepare for Friday's timed test! 1 min 30 sec!

*Please read 15 minutes 5x's a week and record on monthly reading log. 7 completed reading logs earns a special treat at the end of the year!

It's hard to believe that we are 4 weeks into the school year. In Social Studies this week we are continuing to discuss map skills and in Science, Plant Adventures! We earned 10 "Great Day" tallies in our enrichment classes and our students in second grade have voted to celebrate with popsicles on Monday. YEAH, WAY TO GO!  Mark your calendars for our first field trip and Picture Day (information below). We'll be making an applesauce in class on Monday, YUMM!!

We will be taking our Fall school pictures on Monday, September 17. Our time slot is 1:40 pm. If you'd like your child to change into something specific for the pictures, please place it in their backpack. They will be given an opportunity to change beforehand.

Thank you to all who have donated items to our classroom and to those volunteering in our enrichment classes! Mark your calendars for our first field trip and Picture Day (information below). We'll be making an apple pie in class on Monday, YUMM!!

Scholastic Book Orders Due: September 11
 Students came home with a Scholastic Book order form. If you'd like to order books for the month of September, use our class code (found at the top) to place an order on-line! All orders need to be submitted on-line or to given to me on or before September 11, thank you!

Drive for Schools: Begins September 13
