Week 21
We had a GREAT week back at school! We began a Science Unit titled, "Material Magic." ask your child what they made to help shade them from the sun! We also talked a lot about Civil Rights and equality this week in preparation for celebrating Martin Luther King Jrs. birthday!

NO SCHOOL: MONDAY, JANUARY 15
In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. day, there will be no school, enjoy the long weekend!
Field Trip: Monday, January 22
We will leave school at 8:45 am and return around 12:00 pm, we will be back on campus for lunch. If your child needs a booster seat, please provide one for him/her the day of.
Jog-A-Thon: February, 15
More information to come, mark this date on your calendar, especially if you can help out the day of! Students will have an opportunity practice and prepare while at school and will each be given a t-shirt to wear that day!
TLCS Live Auction: March, 23
More information to come! We will have both an online and live auction this year to raise money for our STEAM program. Our class will be making an item that will be available to purchase and there will also be a teacher experience with Mrs. McCutchen that will be available too!

Mitchellville
Jobs start on Tuesday! Each student has received a job and will be paid beginning next week! you may need to replenish your child's school supplies, making sure they have pencils, large pink erasers, and coloring tools (crayons, markers or colored pencils). These items can be placed in a pencil pouch or box that will be placed in their cubby or desk.

Everyone transitioned SO well this week after our break! I enjoyed the time we had together in the classroom!
Weekly Homework
Homework is sent home as a packet every Friday. The packet is to be returned the following Friday and may include:
Spelling Words:
dare, flair, care, stare, rare, stair, hair, pair, chair, fair, below, food, add, own, between
Fluency Page: please time your child while they read the passage aloud. Record their words read in ONE MINUTE, subtract mistakes and write remaining words read correctly. Then have them complete this a second time to produce a second set of scores. don't forget to answer the comprehension questions at the bottom and complete the back of this page as well!
Spelling: students should complete the spelling practice sheet that goes with that week's words.
Super Speed Words: Please time your child for the given amount and have them recite the word list to you. Mark where he/she stopped
Weekly Math Pages: These will be pulled from our Investigations3 math curriculum. Approximately 1-2 per week.

Math Fact Practice: Have your child take a practice math fact test at least 3 times per week to prepare for Friday's timed test! 1 min 30 sec!
*Please read 15 minutes 5x's a week and record on monthly reading log. 7 completed reading logs earns a special treat at the end of the year!
