We have our 100th Day of School this week, YAHOO!! And the Fun Run on Friday, yeah!
There is ALOT going on in February and March! Mark your calendars with the following important dates and keep an eye out for emails and information in your child's Student Planner!
Don't forget to log your child's reading at home, practice Math Facts and take AR quizzes!!

100th Day of School T-Shirt Contest: Thurs. January 31
We are asking all Second Grade students to decorate a t-shirt in celebration for the 100th day of school. Get creative (there are ALOT of ideas on Pinterest). A flyer was sent home this week with instructions, please let me know if you have any questions.
Fun Run: Fri. February 1
Students will be participating in our annual school Fun Run the morning of the 1st! We need volunteers to help and if you'd like to come and cheer on your child, all are welcome! If you haven't already registered your child for the Fun Run, take 5 minutes to do so, thank you!
President's Day Weekend: Feb.15-18
Enjoy a nice long 4 day weekend in honor of our Presidents!
Vacation to Mars Play: Wed. February 20
Please mark your calendars for this fantastic event! All Second Graders are practicing for this performance that will take place in Monscheke Hall from 9:15-10:00. Hope to see you there!
Open House: Thurs., February 21
All are invited to our classroom to see the projects your student has been working on! Classrooms will be open from 7-8 pm. This is also a great time to check out the 3rd grade classes in preparation for next year!
Minimum Day: Fri. February 22
Students will be dismissed at 12:00 pm, Crosswalk will be available until 6:00 pm.
Speech Meet: March
Mrs. Craig sent an email with all the information pertaining to this event and we've sent home a hard-copy of the instructions/rubric. Students will be given the option to choose their own selection (poem, bible verse, or fable) with the approval of their teacher, this must be completed by January 28th. Please send a copy with your child in his/her Student Planner or email me a copy of their selection. All students will participate in a class Speech Meet, a select few students will continue to the grade level Speech Meet, and the all-school Speech Meet will be for those who advance from the grade level meet.
Very Important Person Project Due: March 25
All the information regarding this project will be sent home during the later part of February, look for it in your child's Student Planner.
Fingerprinting
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, we are asking all parents and family members to become fingerprinted. This is a $79 cost and will allow you to drive on field trips and volunteer in the classroom and around campus. Let the office know if you are interested!

Weekly Homework
Homework is sent home as a packet every Friday. The packet is to be returned the following Friday and may include:
Spelling Words:
mail, rain, play, pail, wait, stay, trail, clay, train, snail, world, study, found, nice, jump
Fluency Page: please time your child while they read the passage aloud. Record their words read in ONE MINUTE, subtract mistakes and write remaining words read correctly. Then have them complete this a second time to produce a second set of scores. don't forget to answer the comprehension questions at the bottom and complete the back of this page as well!
Spelling: students should complete the spelling practice sheet that goes with that week's words.
Super Speed Words: Please time your child for the given amount and have them recite the word list to you. Mark where he/she stopped
Weekly Math Pages: These will be pulled from our Investigations3 math curriculum. Approximately 1-2 per week.

Math Fact Practice: Have your child take a practice math fact test at least 3 times per week to prepare for Friday's timed test! 1 min 30 sec!
*Please read 15 minutes 5x's a week and record on monthly reading log. 7 completed reading logs earns a special treat at the end of the year!
